The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has expressed willingness to investigate the alleged large-scale gold theft and irregularities at the Sabarimala temple. This offer comes in response to concerns about the slow progress of the current investigation led by the Kerala Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT). The case involves suspected misappropriation of gold coverings and sculptures at the temple.
The High Court had criticized the SIT for its sluggish pace, especially as key forensic evidence, such as the age determination of the gold, nears completion. Allegations suggest that the gold smuggling from Sabarimala may have connections to interstate and international trafficking networks. In light of these broader implications, the CBI has signaled its readiness to intervene.
Amid calls for a fair investigation, the BJP State president has urged for a CBI probe, citing suspicions of involvement by senior Devaswom Board officials. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also joined the investigation to scrutinize the financial aspects of the alleged gold theft. As both the CBI and ED gear up to take action, the probe into the Sabarimala shrine’s sensitive controversy seems poised for a crucial phase.
