The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), and Delhi Police, has achieved the extradition of wanted fugitive Prabhdeep Singh from Azerbaijan to India. Prabhdeep Singh, the subject of an INTERPOL Red Notice, was sought in connection with a case related to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, registered at the Special Cell Police Station in New Delhi. The case involved a significant narcotics trafficking operation with a substantial seizure of narcotic substances.
Officials disclosed that the investigation uncovered several co-accused individuals, with Prabhdeep Singh identified as the primary conspirator and organizer of the syndicate. Acting on a request from Delhi Police, the CBI, operating as India’s National Central Bureau for INTERPOL, facilitated the issuance of a Red Notice against the accused through INTERPOL channels. Following extensive international coordination and intelligence-sharing efforts, authorities in Azerbaijan located and apprehended the fugitive.
Indian authorities subsequently initiated formal extradition procedures through diplomatic and legal means. After fulfilling the necessary legal requirements in Azerbaijan, the extradition request was approved, enabling the fugitive’s repatriation to India. A three-member escort team from the Delhi Police traveled to Baku, Azerbaijan’s capital, to take custody of the accused, who arrived in Delhi on Wednesday morning with the team.
The CBI emphasized its ongoing close coordination with domestic and international law enforcement agencies via INTERPOL channels and the BHARATPOL platform to track down and repatriate fugitives wanted by Indian agencies. Officials highlighted that, thanks to the concerted efforts of the MEA, MHA, CBI, and other law enforcement bodies, over 160 wanted criminals and fugitives have been successfully brought back to India in recent years.
