Celebrations erupted at the home of Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress President, D.K. Shivakumar, following Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s decision to step down during a breakfast meeting at his official residence ‘Kaveri.’ Supporters and fans of Shivakumar gathered outside his residence in Sadashivanagar, Bengaluru, expressing their joy with slogans, sweets, and celebrations, amid strong indications that Shivakumar may be the next Chief Minister. Police and security personnel were present in large numbers to handle the crowd and ensure order.
Siddaramaiah, in his resignation announcement before Cabinet colleagues, highlighted the state’s financial situation, challenges in implementing government schemes, and the importance of continuing welfare programs. Sources revealed that the Congress high command had endorsed D.K. Shivakumar as the next Chief Minister, with Cabinet members reportedly showing their support. Siddaramaiah emphasized the importance of maintaining good governance and welfare initiatives for the people of Karnataka.
After the meeting, Shivakumar returned home and is expected to seek blessings from seer Ajjayya Swamiji at Nonavinakere Mutt to finalize an auspicious time for his swearing-in ceremony. Security measures have been heightened at Lok Bhavan in anticipation of Siddaramaiah’s resignation submission. Siddaramaiah is scheduled to hand over his resignation letter to Lok Bhavan Secretary R. Prabhushankar, as Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot is away in Indore due to a personal emergency.
