The upcoming Tamil film ‘Jana Nayagan’, starring Vijay, faced a last-minute hurdle as its censor certification process hit a snag before its scheduled January 9 release. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) halted the certification process, sending the film for re-examination despite earlier recommendations for a U/A certificate with specific edits.
Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, ‘Jana Nayagan’ features Vijay in the lead role alongside Pooja Hegde and Mamitha Baiju. The film, made on a substantial budget of approximately Rs 500 crore, is set for a global release in over 5,000 theaters across 22 countries and in four languages.
The film has garnered significant attention as it is believed to be Vijay’s final major cinematic project before his anticipated entry into politics. The producers of ‘Jana Nayagan’ have challenged the delay in certification, citing that the film has not been publicly screened yet, and sought immediate issuance of the censor certificate to avoid financial losses.
The Madras High Court has reserved its decision on the matter and is expected to announce the verdict on January 9, coinciding with the film’s planned release date, creating uncertainty around its theatrical premiere.
