The Centre aims to develop quadruple railway lines linking Bengaluru with nearby cities within a 100-km radius, as announced by Union Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna. Plans also include a four-track rail corridor between Bengaluru and Mangaluru to boost connectivity and speed up train travel. These projects are expected to significantly improve both passenger and freight movement across Karnataka.
Karnataka Minister for Large and Medium Industries M.B. Patil, present at the event, put forth requests to the Railway Ministry for quadruple railway lines connecting Bengaluru with Tumakuru, Mysuru, Hindupur via Gauribidanur, and Kolar. Responding positively, Somanna mentioned that the survey for the Bengaluru-Tumakuru quadruple railway line has been completed, with the tender process set to commence soon.
Somanna assured that the Bengaluru-Tumakuru quadruple railway project aims for completion within the next one-and-a-half to two years. Additionally, plans are underway to survey the proposed Bengaluru-Mysuru quadruple railway line. The Centre also plans to extend the existing four-track railway line beyond Whitefield to establish a direct railway connection between Bengaluru and Kolar, with land acquisition to be handled by the Central government.
