Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, announced that the Centre has no objections to the in-principle approval of the Hyderabad Metro Phase-II project. The Central and Telangana governments are set to contribute equally to the project’s funding.
During a meeting with Union Minister for Urban Development, Manohar Lal Khattar, in New Delhi, the two ministers reviewed key projects in Hyderabad under the Union Ministry of Urban Development. Discussions encompassed urban development, infrastructure, sanitation, and public transportation.
Kishan Reddy confirmed that the Centre is ready to support the Hyderabad Metro Phase-II project on a 50:50 cost-sharing basis with the Telangana government. Khattar mentioned that the Central government would carefully assess the Detailed Project Report and technical aspects of the remaining Phase-II works before making a decision.
Manohar Lal Khattar shared insights on the Musi River’s sanitation in Hyderabad under the Central government’s AMRUT 2.0 scheme. A total of 39 Sewage Treatment Plants have been approved to treat sewage entering the Musi River, with a project cost of ₹3,975 crore. These plants will have the capacity to treat 972 million litres of sewage daily, aiming to enhance river conservation and city sanitation.
