The Centre has lifted President’s Rule from Manipur, allowing the formation of the Yumnam Khemchand Singh-led NDA government. The withdrawal was confirmed through a notification by the Union Home Ministry. Manipur had been under President’s Rule since February 13 last year, following the resignation of then-Chief Minister N. Biren Singh amid ethnic violence.
Senior BJP leader Khemchand Singh is set to be sworn in as the new Chief Minister at Lok Bhavan. The Manipur Assembly, with a tenure until 2027, will witness the oath-taking ceremony. Speculations suggest the new government may include one or two Deputy Chief Ministers and representation from the Kuki-Zo community.
Khemchand Singh’s appointment as the Chief Minister follows prolonged discussions and uncertainty over government formation in Manipur. The BJP, along with its allies, holds a majority in the 60-member Manipur Assembly. The new leadership aims to steer Manipur towards peace, development, and good governance under Khemchand Singh’s experienced guidance.
