Newly-promoted Chanmari FC and former champions Gokulam Kerala FC faced off in Match 2 of the Indian Football League 2025-26 season at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Aizawl. Chanmari FC fielded an all-Indian lineup from Mizoram, while Gokulam Kerala FC’s head coach, Derick Pereira, fielded a strong and experienced starting XI.
Gokulam Kerala FC took control early on, dominating possession and displaying more attacking intent, keeping the Chanmari defense alert. Despite this, the first significant opportunity of the match came for the home side when Joel Lalramengmawia’s header from a long throw went over the crossbar.
In the first half, the visitors had the upper hand in attacking play but failed to test the opposition goalkeeper with clear chances. Although they won five corner kicks and came close to scoring from one, a header by John Kennedy hit the post. The home side, meanwhile, focused on solid defense and quick counter-attacks, showcasing good teamwork and passing skills.
Chanmari FC started the second half aggressively, with Aron Vanlalrinchhana missing a chance early on. Gokulam Kerala FC also had opportunities, with John Kennedy’s low cross being saved by the goalkeeper. Nili Borges missed a clear chance for the visitors, failing to score despite being unmarked in front of goal.
As the game progressed, Chanmari showed more attacking prowess, especially down the left flank, but struggled to find the final touch. Both teams applied pressure, but neither could break the deadlock, leading to a drawn match to kick off the season.
