Voting for the Bhojpur-Buxar Legislative Council by-election in Bihar’s Bhojpur district is ongoing with tight security at 14 polling stations. However, chaos briefly disrupted the process at a polling booth in Ara. RJD candidate Sonu Kumar accused the magistrate of favoring the NDA candidate, leading to a heated argument.
The confrontation escalated when an RJD supporter reportedly grabbed the collar of the duty magistrate during an identity verification dispute. This incident caused panic and commotion at the polling station, but police and officials intervened promptly to restore order. Despite the disruption, voting resumed smoothly, with authorities ensuring the process continued.
The by-election features three candidates, with the main contest between NDA candidate Kanhaiya Prasad and RJD candidate Sonu Kumar. To maintain law and order, 14 Zonal Magistrates and four Super-Zonal Magistrates have been deployed at all polling stations. Additional police personnel and security forces are also present at each center to oversee proceedings.
A district-level control room has been established to monitor the election, with live webcasting and videography at all polling booths. The by-election was triggered by a vacancy following the resignation of JD(U) leader Radha Charan Sah, who won the Bihar Assembly election from the Sandesh Assembly constituency in 2025. Voting began at 8 a.m. and will continue until 4 p.m., with the vote count scheduled for May 14.
