Chelsea F.C. has officially named Xabi Alonso as their new head coach, starting a four-year term at Stamford Bridge from July 1, 2026. This move is part of Chelsea’s efforts to bring stability after a period of managerial changes. Alonso, the former Spanish international, joins Chelsea following his departure from Real Madrid earlier this year.
The announcement of Alonso’s appointment was made by Chelsea through a statement on social media. This decision comes shortly after Chelsea’s loss to Manchester City F.C. in the FA Cup final, concluding a season marked by inconsistency. The club had seen managerial transitions from Enzo Maresca to Liam Rosenior and currently to Calum McFarlane on an interim basis.
Alonso, known for his successful stint at Bayer 04 Leverkusen where he secured the Bundesliga title in 2024, is now tasked with leading Chelsea. In his first statement as Chelsea manager, Alonso expressed his eagerness to elevate the club’s performance and compete for trophies. His impressive playing career includes spells at Liverpool F.C., Real Sociedad, Real Madrid, and FC Bayern Munich, along with a significant international presence with Spain.
