Priya, Tamil Nadu’s youngest Mayor, requested immediate police action against unknown individuals targeting her on social media and digital platforms. The complaint, drawing attention in political and civic circles, highlighted harassment through WhatsApp, Facebook, and the circulation of defamatory images and videos.
The Mayor accused unidentified persons of circulating morphed photos and edited videos to damage her reputation and mislead the public. She also noted disturbances to her office caused by repeated calls and messages to her official telephone. Following the complaint, the police initiated an investigation, focusing on identifying the perpetrators behind the online harassment. The Cyber Crime Wing is analyzing digital evidence, including social media posts and call records, to track the suspects.
Investigators are set to examine whether the accused violated laws under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act.
