The Greater Chennai Police detained 77 individuals and filed 38 criminal cases in a week-long anti-narcotics operation. The crackdown, led by Chennai Police Commissioner A. Amalraj, aimed to combat illegal drug trafficking networks in the city.
During the operation from June 14 to June 20, police teams in all 12 districts of Chennai intensified surveillance and conducted targeted actions against suspected drug offenders. The seizures included 22 kilograms of ganja, 831 grams of methamphetamine, and other narcotics.
The authorities highlighted the success of the operation in disrupting drug supply chains and apprehending individuals involved in the city’s narcotics network. The Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) played a vital role in gathering intelligence on drug peddlers, aiding in the arrests.
In addition to the drugs, police seized vehicles like two-wheelers, an autorickshaw, a car, and mobile phones used in drug trafficking activities. The arrested individuals were handed over to police stations for further investigation and legal procedures.
The anti-narcotics drive is part of a broader campaign by the Greater Chennai Police to combat drug-related crimes and banned substances. The police emphasized their commitment to taking strict legal action against offenders and freezing the assets of those involved in organized drug networks.
