The Chennai Police Commissioner has issued a detailed order to all police stations in the city, emphasizing the enforcement of TASMAC operating hours. The directive also includes directives on crime control, public service, and law and order management. Liquor outlets under FL1 category, including TASMAC and Elite TASMAC shops, must close by 10 p.m., while FL2 outlets also have the same closing time. FL3 establishments are required to shut by midnight.
Officials are mandated to ensure that liquor sales occur only at authorized locations and within specified timings. The order strictly prohibits the “loose selling” of liquor. Patrol teams, including various units, have been tasked with monitoring compliance and providing photographic evidence of enforcement actions. The Commissioner has warned of potential actions against officers failing to adhere to the rules.
The order encompasses a wide array of instructions to enhance policing standards and bolster crime control efforts in Chennai. Assistant Commissioners of Police are directed to scrutinize cases recommended under the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act and proceed only with cases capable of withstanding scrutiny. The order emphasizes timely closure of murder investigations within 90 days and systematic pursuit of cases involving known rowdy elements for convictions.
Additionally, police are instructed to profile narcotics offenders identified through ANIU alerts and expedite charge sheets in commercial quantity NDPS cases within 60 days. Strict timelines have been set for POCSO cases, and periodic reviews are mandated for SC/ST-related cases. Police personnel, excluding certain roles, are required to conduct patrol duties in crowd-prone areas from 6 p.m. onwards. The Commissioner stresses the importance of respectful treatment of the public at police stations and warns of consequences for personnel found harassing complainants.
The order concludes with directives to maintain clean police station premises and ensure disciplined and efficient policing to enhance public confidence in the force.
