Newly appointed Chennai Police Commissioner Dr A. Amalraj has launched a rigorous crackdown on criminal activities in the city. This initiative led to the arrest of 15 individuals, including four history-sheeters, as part of efforts to bolster law enforcement and tackle anti-social behavior. Special police teams, under the Commissioner’s guidance, conducted coordinated surveillance operations and targeted raids across the Chennai Metropolitan area to enhance public safety and monitor individuals with criminal backgrounds.
The operation focused on preemptive measures against individuals allegedly engaged in extortion, violent crimes, intimidation, and other unlawful activities impacting residents and businesses in Chennai. A total of 410 individuals with criminal records were screened during the operation to track their activities and identify repeat offenders. The aim was to closely monitor known criminal networks and deter illegal activities through continuous vigilance and enforcement.
In a parallel anti-narcotics drive across the city, police teams inspected 86 locations suspected of drug-related offenses. Authorities placed 36 narcotics offenders under surveillance and registered two new cases related to drug trafficking. Four individuals were arrested during the anti-drug operation, and authorities seized 1.2 kilograms of ganja along with 30 pain-relief tablets associated with illicit drug trade. The city administration plans to conduct similar coordinated drives regularly to prevent criminal activities and enhance public safety.
Commissioner Amalraj emphasized that stringent actions would persist against rowdies, history-sheeters, and individuals involved in unlawful behaviors. He affirmed the continuation of sustained enforcement efforts throughout Chennai to maintain law and order effectively.
