Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel led a late-night review meeting at the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) in response to ongoing heavy rainfall affecting parts of Gujarat. The administration is ramping up rescue, relief, and monitoring efforts in severely impacted districts of South Gujarat. During the meeting, Patel received updates on the weather situation from officials of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and district Collectors in the affected areas.
IMD officials provided forecasts of widespread rainfall across Gujarat in the upcoming days. Patel specifically inquired about the rainfall data between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., focusing on South Gujarat, Dholka in Ahmedabad district, Mahemdabad in Kheda district, and Mehsana. He instructed the administration to stay vigilant throughout the night and closely monitor the situation in case of further rainfall. The Chief Minister also assessed the electricity supply status in the affected regions.
Officials reported that the State Emergency Operations Centre is maintaining constant communication with all districts through its hotline network to ensure continuous monitoring and coordination. The meeting highlighted the deployment of four teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in South Gujarat, with additional teams positioned in Valsad, Navsari, and Surat. These teams, equipped with boats and rescue gear, are aiding district authorities in rescue and relief operations.
As a precautionary measure, NDRF and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams are stationed in districts across the Saurashtra region. The state administration disclosed that 352 individuals were rescued in South Gujarat, and over 22,000 residents in Navsari and Valsad were relocated to safer areas due to flooding from heavy rainfall. Chief Secretary M. K. Das assured that the state administration is fully equipped with manpower, machinery, and resources for emergency response.
The Chief Minister directed officials to prioritize cleaning operations, road restoration, and public health measures once the rainfall subsides and floodwaters recede. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi traveled from Navsari to Valsad late Thursday night. He is set to convene a review meeting at the Valsad Collector’s Office to evaluate the flood situation and oversee the ongoing rescue and relief efforts by the district administration. These late-night reviews by the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister coincide with the government’s heightened monitoring and response actions in anticipation of continued heavy rainfall across Gujarat.
