Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will spearhead the Left Democratic Front’s campaign in the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections, as confirmed by CPI(M) general secretary M. A. Baby. The party, however, has not yet announced a Chief Ministerial candidate.
M. A. Baby, speaking after a politburo meeting in New Delhi, clarified that the decision on the Chief Minister will be made post-election, upon securing a majority. He emphasized that no official candidate has been declared by the CPI(M) or the Left so far.
Baby expressed confidence in Kerala’s Left government, highlighting it as a crucial alternative in governance. He mentioned that the government’s initiatives for development and welfare in the past decade are expected to benefit the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the polls.
The CPI(M) is set to unveil its candidate list in the initial week of March. Baby stressed that candidate selection is a structured and democratic process within the party, with considerations for youth representation, gender diversity, marginalized groups, and winnability.
