Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan emphasized the need for collaboration among the Armed Forces, academia, industry, and research organizations to maximize the potential of Brain-Computer Interface technologies for national security and societal benefits. The conference on ‘Brain-Computer Interface (BCI): Expanding Neural Frontiers & Its Strategic Implications’ was inaugurated by him, jointly organized by Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) and the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies.
The event, spearheaded by Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman COSC (CISC), brought together key stakeholders including senior military leadership, policymakers, scientists, medical experts, industry representatives, start-ups, and academia to explore the emerging field of Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) and its strategic implications. Director General of the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS), Maj Gen (Dr) Ashok Kumar (Rtd), highlighted the transformative potential of neural technologies during the conference.
Director General Armed Forces Medical Services, Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, underlined the increasing convergence between human cognition and computational systems, noting the blurring lines between cognition and computation. Dr T.K. Gandhi from IIT Delhi pointed out the rapid evolution of BCI from theory to practical application, emphasizing its relevance in civilian welfare and military operations.
