A nine-year-old child named Sadiqul Ahmed, critically injured in an explosion in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, passed away at MR Bangur Hospital in Kolkata. Sadiqul had sustained 95% injuries in the incident that occurred on February 17. The child’s family is grieving the loss of their son.
Two other children, also injured in the explosion, are reported to be in stable condition. Local residents are expressing anger over the incident, questioning why a drum filled with chemicals was left open in a populated area. They believe that proper security measures could have prevented the tragedy.
The explosion, caused by a drum filled with light diesel oil, injured four children playing by the roadside. Three of the injured minors, with serious burn injuries, were transferred to MR Bangur Hospital for treatment. The incident has raised concerns about safety protocols and the need for stricter measures to prevent such accidents in the future.
Deputy Commissioner of Bhangar Police Division, Saikat Ghosh, and Trinamool MLA from Canning East, Saokat Molla, visited the site to assist in admitting the injured children to the hospital. Despite efforts to save the children, one of them eventually succumbed to the injuries sustained in the explosion.
