China faced disappointment in men’s singles at the 2026 China Open in Changzhou as both Shi Yuqi and Weng Hongyang were eliminated in the quarterfinals. Shi Yuqi, the world No. 1, lost to Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien-chen after a tough 61-minute battle, while Weng fell short against Lin Chun-Yi from Chinese Taipei.
With the exits of Shi and Weng, all four Chinese men’s singles players have been knocked out of the competition. The semifinals will see Chou facing Lin and Victor Lai from Canada against Toma Junior Popov from France.
In women’s singles, China’s Wang Zhiyi secured a spot in the semifinals by defeating South Korea’s Kim Ga-eun. Wang will now compete against Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi, while Olympic champion Chen Yufei advanced to the last four by overcoming Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon.
Chinese doubles pairs also performed well, with victories in mixed doubles and men’s and women’s doubles categories. The semifinals of the 2026 China Open are scheduled for Saturday, with the tournament concluding on Sunday.
