Preparations are underway in Coimbatore for Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s upcoming visit to inaugurate various infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing urban services and public amenities. The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) is intensifying efforts across multiple departments to ensure the timely completion of key projects. Notable developments include the Periyar Grand Library and Science Centre, upgraded transport facilities, and essential water and sewerage schemes nearing finalization.
One of the highlighted projects set for inauguration is the Ukkadam Bus Terminal-1, constructed at a cost of ₹21.56 crore to improve public transport operations and alleviate traffic congestion in the Central Zone. Additionally, the Kurichi–Kuniyamuthur Underground Sewerage Scheme (UGSS), costing ₹591.14 crore, is nearing completion under the AMRUT program. This initiative features a sewage treatment plant with a capacity of 30.53 million liters per day and widespread household sewer connections to elevate sanitation standards and support sustainable urban growth.
The Suez 24×7 drinking water supply project, a significant endeavor nearing final stages, aims to provide continuous and reliable potable water to residents, addressing long-standing civic needs by replacing the existing intermittent supply system. In the Arputham Nagar area of Podanur, infrastructure preparations, including sewage pumping stations and supporting systems, are in place to ensure the smooth operation of the expanded underground drainage network. Engineering teams are diligently conducting testing and operational checks round-the-clock.
Close coordination among senior officials from the municipal corporation, TWAD Board, and transport department is ongoing to synchronize timelines and prevent last-minute delays. Emphasizing quality, safety, and prompt execution, the administration is focused on presenting the projects in optimal condition before the Chief Minister’s visit. These developments signify a new era of urban modernization in Coimbatore, highlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing core infrastructure and elevating the city’s stature as a prominent industrial and residential center in Tamil Nadu.
