Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met with Spanish Economy Minister Carlos Cuerpo in Madrid to discuss enhancing business relations between India and Spain. They focused on strengthening economic partnerships through increased trade, investment, and technology collaboration, particularly in areas like renewable energy, green hydrogen, advanced manufacturing, digital technologies, infrastructure, and innovation. Goyal also mentioned discussions on the India-EU Free Trade Agreement to further deepen commercial ties between the two nations.
During his three-nation visit to Spain, Belgium, and Finland, Goyal, accompanied by a high-level business delegation, emphasized India’s commitment to bolstering economic partnerships across Europe. The visit aims to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, technology, innovation, and sustainability, as highlighted in an official statement.
In Spain, Goyal is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with key officials, including Industry and Tourism Minister Jordi Hereu Boher and Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation Minister Jose Manuel Albares Bueno. Additionally, he will lead an India-Spain Business Roundtable with prominent Spanish companies and industry associations to promote India’s investment prospects and foster stronger business collaborations.
Previously, in February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Spanish President Pedro Sanchez met in New Delhi to explore avenues for expanding cooperation in various sectors such as trade, economy, health, digital technology, and innovation. The discussions encompassed key areas like trade and economy, digitalization, innovation, health, climate action, and education, reflecting the mutual commitment to bolstering India-EU relations.
