The Commission of Inquiry into the Meitei-Kuki ethnic conflict, established on June 4, 2023, is currently in Manipur for a three-day inspection. Led by Chairman Justice B.S. Chauhan and members Himanshu Sekhar Das and Aloka Prabhakar, the Commission met with Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh to discuss their objectives and progress.
During their visit from May 29 to 31, the Commission visited relief camps in Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Imphal West, and Imphal East districts, interacting with Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by the violence. They also inspected a relief camp in Churachandpur district to assess the situation firsthand.
Engaging directly with camp residents, the Commission listened to their accounts of displacement, challenges, and expectations. This interaction allowed the affected families to express their grievances and aspirations, providing valuable insights for the inquiry panel.
The Commission’s visit aims to gather evidence and ensure a thorough investigation rooted in the experiences of affected communities in both hill and valley districts. Accompanied by officials including Mohan Lal Meena and N. Ashok Kumar, the Commission is committed to understanding the ground realities of the conflict.
