The Congress party has named new presidents for the District Congress Committees (DCCs) in 53 organisational districts in Bihar. This move is part of a significant restructuring effort to enhance its political standing in the state following a poor performance in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. The decision is a key element of a broader organisational revamp initiated by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.
Under the ‘Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan,’ the party aims to strengthen its grassroots organization by implementing these changes. AICC observers conducted thorough reviews at the district level, engaging with party members and stakeholders to compile detailed reports. Subsequently, senior party leaders held discussions with the observers before finalizing the appointments to ensure a meticulous selection process.
The restructuring initiative comes in response to the party’s ongoing electoral struggles in Bihar. In the 2025 Assembly elections, the Congress contested 61 seats but could secure victory in only six. Similarly, in the 2020 elections, the party managed to win merely 19 out of the 70 seats it contested. To address these challenges, the party is focusing on fortifying its district-level organizational setup.
The appointments of new DCC presidents in various districts have been officially announced by the office of Congress MP and General Secretary K.C. Venugopal. Notable appointments include Mohd. Masum Raza for Araria, Anand Shankar Singh for Aurangabad, and Prof. Sanjeev Kumar for Jehanabad, among others. These changes are viewed as a strategic move by the Congress to rejuvenate its grassroots structure and enhance its political standing in Bihar ahead of future elections.
