The Congress party kickstarted its campaign for the Datia Assembly bypoll, led by state president Jitu Patwari and former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh. Patwari, along with Singh, addressed a gathering of party workers in Datia, expressing confidence in securing victory with people’s support.
Patwari emphasized the unity within the Congress ranks, highlighting the party’s readiness to win the upcoming election. He commended former Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti for his unwavering stance post the last Assembly polls, lauding his commitment to upholding democracy and public trust.
Taking a swipe at the BJP and former Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra, Patwari criticized their leadership, referring to Mishra as “Ahankari Bhaiya” (arrogant brother). He rallied workers to back the Congress symbol, underscoring a message of solidarity regardless of the final candidate selection.
As anticipation loomed over the nominee announcement, Patwari teased the crowd about revealing the candidate’s name, ultimately stating, “My candidate is the Congress symbol,” maintaining the suspense. With both the Congress and BJP yet to disclose their candidates, the bypoll, scheduled for July 30, is poised to witness a fierce political showdown in Madhya Pradesh.
