Congress leader Husain Dalwai expressed disappointment with the Maharashtra government for its handling of the widespread waterlogging issue in various parts of the state during heavy rainfall. Despite prior warnings, the government allegedly failed to take effective measures to prevent such recurring problems. The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for districts like Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Palghar due to the continuous heavy rainfall.
The intense downpour has led to severe waterlogging, disrupting local train services and causing the closure of schools in multiple areas. Additionally, heavy showers have resulted in road cave-ins, fallen trees, and disruptions in both road and rail traffic across different regions. The impact of the rainfall has extended to Thane, Palghar, Navi Mumbai, and Pune, where incidents of landslides, flooded roads, and evacuations have been reported.
Dalwai criticized the civic authorities for their lack of preparedness, questioning the effectiveness of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) engineers. He highlighted the dangers posed by open manholes, which have led to fatalities. Despite promises of compensation to the families of the deceased, Dalwai emphasized that the administration has failed to address the issues effectively. The heavy rains have continued to disrupt normal life in Maharashtra, with incidents like vehicle damage and structural collapses being reported.
Waterlogging at the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) railway station in Kurla and ongoing heavy rainfall in Mumbai, Thane, and Pune have further compounded the challenges faced by residents. The relentless rainfall over the past 48 hours has significantly impacted Thane district, causing widespread waterlogging, tree falls, and structural damage, including injuries to individuals.
