Congress MLA Pankaj Upadhyay held a sit-in protest at the Madhya Pradesh Assembly premises, alleging that his inquiries about the Kailaras Sugar Mill were consistently turned down without explanation. Upadhyay, representing Jaura in Morena district, demanded transparency regarding the rejections during the Monsoon Session’s commencement. He expressed frustration over the repeated dismissal of his questions related to the sugar mill without any justification, despite submitting them multiple times in various Assembly sessions.
Several Congress MLAs joined Upadhyay in his protest near the Mahatma Gandhi statue. Upadhyay highlighted that his questions on the Kailaras Sugar Mill, submitted across different sessions, had all been rejected without providing reasons. Despite seeking clarification from the Assembly authorities, he remained uninformed about the basis for the rejections. Upadhyay emphasized that as an elected representative, addressing public concerns is his constitutional right, and the unexplained dismissals hinder democratic processes.
Former minister Jaivardhan Singh supported Upadhyay’s stance, emphasizing the significance of the Kailaras Sugar Mill issue for farmers and laborers. Singh criticized the Assembly Secretariat’s handling of the matter, expressing concerns over the denial of legislators’ rights. He warned of escalating protests through democratic channels if elected representatives’ rights continued to be disregarded, stressing the importance of upholding democratic traditions.
