In a significant turn of events, Congress MLA T.D. Rajegowda has won the recounting of postal ballots in the Sringeri Assembly constituency in Karnataka. The High Court had ordered the recount, which reaffirmed Rajegowda’s victory. Rajegowda expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision, stating that truth has prevailed despite continuous allegations against him.
Celebrations erupted outside IDSG College in Chikkamagaluru as Rajegowda’s supporters cheered his win with slogans and flower showers. The Sringeri constituency gained attention during the 2023 Assembly elections when Rajegowda defeated BJP candidate D.N. Jeevaraj by a narrow margin of 201 votes. The recount process faced a delay due to the temporary misplacement of nine rejected ballot papers, which were later found after an extensive search by officials.
Rajegowda, reflecting on his political journey, emphasized his commitment to serving the constituency despite facing obstacles from the opposition. He highlighted the importance of giving elected representatives the opportunity to work for the people’s welfare. The recounting process, which involved a total of 1,822 postal ballots with 279 votes rejected, concluded with Rajegowda’s reaffirmed victory.
