Congress legislators, led by Leader of the Opposition Umang Singhar, protested in the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly against the deaths caused by contaminated water in Indore’s Bhagirathpura. They demonstrated symbolically in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue, displaying bottles of murky water and placards. The legislators demanded justice for the victims and the resignation of Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya.
Singhar expressed sadness and concern over the deaths in Bhagirathpura due to contaminated water. He criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party government for shirking responsibility and urged Minister Vijayvargiya to resign on moral grounds. The opposition leader called for strict action against officials held accountable for the situation.
During the protest, Singhar highlighted discrepancies between the Governor’s claims of clean water and the actual situation. He emphasized the need for serious discussions on the issue and urged the government to address public concerns. The Congress party aims to address the matter within the House for deliberation.
Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda, also responsible for finance, is set to present the third supplementary budget of approximately Rs 20,000 crore for the current financial year. Additionally, the Economic Survey will be presented in the Assembly. The Congress had previously requested a white paper on the state’s economic status.
In response to the Opposition’s allegations, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav assured readiness to address all issues raised during the session. He appealed for cooperation from Opposition members to ensure a smooth budget session. Meanwhile, the Congress plans to oppose the presence of three senior ministers during the ongoing session.
