Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi took charge of the Opposition’s stance in the Lok Sabha debate on women’s reservation and delimitation-related Bills. He emphasized the Congress Party’s support for women’s reservation while strongly opposing its linkage with delimitation. Gogoi highlighted the government’s narrative shift and urged for the immediate implementation of women’s reservation without delay.
Referring to Home Minister Amit Shah’s past statements on women’s reservation, Gogoi questioned the government’s current approach. He emphasized the need to simplify the process of women’s reservation for prompt implementation post the law’s enactment. Gogoi criticized the delay in implementing women’s reservation and highlighted the government’s proposed timeline discrepancies.
Gogoi pointed out the government’s reluctance to conduct a caste census and alleged that the Bills’ timing indicated a strategic move. He criticized the government for prioritizing women’s reservation over the caste census and accused them of rushing the delimitation process. Gogoi also questioned the proposed increase in Lok Sabha seats, raising concerns about the lack of relevant data supporting the decision.
