The Congress party has selected Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Vem Narender Reddy as candidates for Rajya Sabha seats in Telangana. Singhvi, a senior leader, is nominated for another term, while Narender Reddy, a close aide to Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, is also chosen. Both candidates will file their nominations on Thursday, the final day for submissions.
The elections for the two Rajya Sabha seats from Telangana are set for March 16. The current members, Singhvi and KR Suresh Reddy, will see their terms ending on April 9, leading to the necessity of these elections. Singhvi, known for his legal expertise and impactful presence in Parliament, is being sent to the upper House for another term by the party’s high command.
Several senior leaders vied for the second ticket, including Shyam Mohan Anantula, V. Hanumantha Rao, G Chinna Reddy, Madhu Yaskhi Goud, and M Kodanda Reddy. Narender Reddy expressed gratitude on social media to various party leaders for their support. He has a political history dating back to his time as an MLA from Mahabubabad and later joining the Congress with Revanth Reddy in 2018.
