Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee President Harshwardhan Sapkal announced that the Congress, the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction), and former BJP corporators will collaborate to choose the mayor of the Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation. Narayan Chaudhary, previously associated with the Congress, and others who left the BJP have formed an independent group to support the alliance.
Sapkal, along with NCP (SP) MP Suresh Mhatre, revealed that after 24 days of discussions with like-minded parties, a resolution has been reached regarding the municipal leadership in Bhiwandi. The alliance, comprising 30 Congress corporators, 12 from the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and ex-BJP corporators, will govern the city.
Observers will be dispatched promptly to finalize decisions on the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and the Standing Committee in Bhiwandi. The alliance’s firm stance is to keep the Bharatiya Janata Party out of power, ensuring that both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be from the alliance.
Efforts to establish a secular alliance government in Bhiwandi have been ongoing between the Congress and the NCP, with discussions also held with the Samajwadi Party. The path to forming the municipal government has been cleared with the support of corporators who left the BJP to back the alliance.
