The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has declined the resignation of former Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Borah, as efforts are made to address internal discord before the Assam Assembly elections. Borah, who had offered his resignation to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, awaits a final decision following discussions with his family.
Expressing his long-standing commitment to the party, Borah cited feeling unheard as the reason for his resignation after 32 years of service. Despite pleas for reconsideration, Borah emphasized the need for more time to deliberate with his family before making a conclusive choice.
In a bid to foster unity, Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi publicly apologized to Borah, acknowledging him as a dedicated party member. Assam Congress in-charge Bhanwar Jitendra Singh confirmed that Borah’s resignation remains pending, highlighting the ongoing efforts to resolve misunderstandings and reinforce party cohesion.
Senior leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, engaged in extensive discussions to address the issue, emphasizing the Congress’s commitment to unity in Assam. AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal also intervened to persuade Borah to retract his resignation, signaling the party’s concerted efforts to retain the seasoned leader.
