The Congress expressed solidarity with Mamata Banerjee’s protest against alleged attacks on TMC members and hawkers encroaching railway lands, citing it as her constitutional right. Congress MP Pramod Tiwari emphasized the importance of peaceful protests in a democracy, referencing attacks on TMC leaders. He urged opposition parties to unite against what he termed as BJP’s authoritarian behavior.
BJP members, however, downplayed the impact of Banerjee’s protest, attributing it to her party’s recent electoral defeat. BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal suggested Banerjee focus on internal party matters, stating that public dissatisfaction with TMC’s governance is mounting. BJP leader Locket Chatterjee echoed these sentiments, claiming that TMC’s decline post-election has led to public resentment and a loss of party support.
