The Consulate General of India in Germany’s Frankfurt recently organized a lively Mango Festival at Taj Hessischer Hof in Frankfurt. The event brought together over 80 guests, including diplomatic corps, business leaders, and media representatives, to celebrate India’s renowned ‘King of Fruits.’ Guests were treated to a delightful selection of Indian mango varieties and dishes like Mango Lassi, Mango Crostini, and Mango Matka Kulfi, showcasing India’s diverse culinary traditions.
Consul General Shuchita Kishore emphasized the cultural importance of mangoes in India, a country with over 1,000 varieties and the world’s largest mango producer. The festival provided a glimpse into India’s agricultural heritage, culinary diversity, and expanding global presence in mango exports. Indian mangoes, such as Kesar, Alphonso, and Langra, are in high demand in the United States, with shipments quickly selling out at major retailers.
India’s Ambassador to the US, Vinay Kwatra, highlighted the growing popularity of Indian mangoes, attributing it to diaspora nostalgia and the increasing American appreciation for Indian produce. Varieties like Alphonso, Kesar, and Langra, once cherished by Indian Americans returning from visits, are now available in mainstream US stores, offering consumers a taste of India’s flavors.
