Sangli, Aug 18 (IANS) In a shocking incident reported from Maharashtra’s Sangli, a woman and her husband lost their lives after being attacked by a neighbour following dispute over dumping of garbage at the doorstep, police said on Tuesday.
According to officials, a quarrel had broken out between neighbours in the Kupwad area of Sangli over garbage being dumped at a doorstep.
The dispute escalated to the point where a man, identified as Farid Abdul Shaikh, allegedly launched a fatal attack on the couple, Manisha Mohan Kesarkar and her husband Mohan Kesarkar.
While Manisha died on the spot, her husband was left grievously injured and had been undergoing treatment at a civil hospital, before passing away on Tuesday.
With the couple’s death, the incident has now turned into a double murder case.
The police have already arrested the suspect, Farid Abdul Shaikh.
Meanwhile, an agitated mob of the victims’ relatives and locals gathered at the hospital, demanding that the accused be tried in a fast-track court without delay and be given the strictest possible punishment.
In a similar case of murder over a trivial issue, a couple was allegedly assaulted and strangled to death by their sons over a property dispute in Ghaziabad last month .
According to officials, the accused allegedly slapped, kicked and tried to suffocate their parents with their bare hands before strangling them with a towel.
The attack came barely hours after the couple had organised a kirtan on the birthday of their elder son.
Upon receiving the information, the police arrived at the site and rushed the injured couple to the hospital. Doctors declared them dead on the spot during treatment.
Police had detained the brothers, identified as Deepak and Lalit.
Investigators said that both the brothers were married and had children.
However, the wives and children did not live with them as both of the accused were unemployed. The father insisted the sons get jobs, which often led to arguments between them, officials said.
