Trouble is increasing for Prashant Kishor, the founder of Jan Suraaj Party, as a civil court in Bettiah has instructed him to attend a hearing related to a defamation lawsuit filed by BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal. The case revolves around allegations that Kishor made statements aiming to harm the public image and reputation of the four-time Member of Parliament. The court has decided to proceed further based on affidavits and witness testimonies presented.
The defamation suit by Sanjay Jaiswal alleges that efforts were made to tarnish his reputation through various means such as public speeches, press conferences, social media, and digital platforms associated with Jan Suraaj. During the court session, a witness testified that he learned about the accusations against the MP through media reports and public events led by Prashant Kishor. The witness highlighted Jaiswal’s background as a respected figure from a political and social family, emphasizing his multiple terms as an MP and current role as Chief Whip in the Lok Sabha.
According to the witness, during a public meeting in Bettiah on August 26, 2025, Prashant Kishor allegedly referred to Sanjay Jaiswal as a minor politician and accused him of influencing a local project for personal gain. The witness claimed that these statements were intended to harm Jaiswal’s public standing. The complaint also mentions instances where Jaiswal was reportedly labeled as an oil thief and accused of involvement in irregularities related to municipal fuel bills during a press conference and on various media platforms.
Advocate Chandrika Kushwaha, representing Sanjay Jaiswal, informed that the court questioned the witness about his knowledge of both parties during the hearing. The witness clarified his acquaintance with MP Sanjay Jaiswal as his constituency representative and identified Prashant Kishor as the leader of Jan Suraaj. The court has summoned Prashant Kishor to present his stance, with further proceedings scheduled after his response. The case is set to progress following Kishor’s appearance or submission before the court.
