Banned CPI-Maoist’s senior Politburo member, Prashant Bose, known as ‘Kishan Da’, passed away at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi. Bose, aged over 80, was in Seraikela Jail when he experienced severe breathing issues early Friday morning. Rushed to RIMS under tight security, doctors’ efforts to stabilize him were unsuccessful, leading to his demise around 10 a.m.
A magistrate has been assigned to oversee the case due to its sensitivity, ensuring legal protocols are followed diligently. Hailing from West Bengal, Bose held a prominent position in the Maoist movement, ranking second only to CPI-Maoist General Secretary Nambala Keshav Rao. He played crucial roles in the Central Committee, Politburo, and as the Eastern Regional Bureau’s secretary.
Known by aliases like ‘Manish’ and ‘Buddha’ within Maoist circles, Bose was apprehended with his wife, Sheela Marandi, in November 2021 near Kandra Toll Bridge. Security agencies revealed his involvement in over 200 Maoist-related incidents across states like Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, and others. Bose, a strategic thinker and ideologue, had been active for almost four decades before his arrest.
Having been in judicial custody due to age-related health issues, Bose’s demise has prompted increased security measures in the area. Post-mortem procedures are underway as legal formalities following his passing are being finalized.
