The CPI(M) leadership and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan criticized the US for its recent military actions in Venezuela, denouncing it as imperialist aggression. Chief Minister Vijayan labeled the US behavior as that of a “rogue state,” expressing concerns over the impact on global peace, especially in Latin America. He urged progressive forces worldwide to unite against what he called “imperialist moves.”
CPI(M) General Secretary M.A. Baby joined in the criticism, describing the US airstrikes in Venezuela as “shocking and painful.” He emphasized that the US actions posed a threat to Venezuela, a country with friendly ties to India and a member of the Non-Aligned Movement. Baby highlighted the responsibility of India, as a founding leader of the International Solar Alliance, to publicly condemn the military intervention.
The CPI(M) Politburo issued a statement urging the Indian populace to protest strongly against the US assault on Venezuela. The statement raised concerns about civilian lives being endangered by the airstrikes targeting residential areas in Caracas and nearby regions. It pointed out the historical targeting of Venezuela by US foreign policy and expressed alarm at the current military escalation.
The Politburo also demanded immediate clarification from the US regarding the status of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, following claims made by President Trump. The CPI(M) called on the US to adhere to the UN Charter and warned against further violations of national sovereignty, cautioning that such actions could destabilize Latin America and jeopardize global peace.
