Croatian tennis player Marin Cilic has ended his partnership with coach Vilim Visak, the former world No. 3 ATP player. Their collaboration, which began in 2020, saw them clinch three ATP Tour titles together. Cilic, 37, shared the news of their split on social media, expressing gratitude for their journey and memorable moments.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Cilic reflected on their long-standing friendship and shared experiences since their teenage years. He highlighted significant achievements like reaching the Roland Garros semifinals and winning ATP titles. Cilic thanked Visak for his support, motivation, and guidance, especially during challenging times, hinting at a possible future reunion in their professional paths.
Under Visak’s guidance, Cilic made it to the Roland Garros semifinals in 2022 before facing a knee surgery in early 2023, limiting his tournament appearances that year. After a brief comeback in early 2024, Cilic underwent another knee surgery in May. Despite setbacks, he marked a remarkable return by winning the Hangzhou Open as the lowest-ranked champion in ATP Tour history.
Visak, acknowledging their fruitful partnership, expressed gratitude for the privilege of coaching Cilic over seven years. Together, they achieved victories in tournaments like Stuttgart, St. Petersburg, and Hangzhou, with Cilic attaining a ranking of No. 14 in the ATP Rankings under Visak’s mentorship.
