Customs officers at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad confiscated 10.91 kg of hydroponic marijuana valued at approximately Rs 11 crore from a passenger arriving from Bangkok. The seizure, conducted by the Air Intelligence Unit of Ahmedabad Customs, occurred after a customs sniffer dog detected the presence of narcotics in the passenger’s checked-in baggage.

Upon identifying the passenger, who is from Mangrol town in Junagadh district, officers discovered five packets of green plant material concealed in the checked-in trolley bag. Field testing confirmed the substance as hydroponic marijuana. The total net weight of the seized contraband was 10,911 grams.

The seized hydroponic marijuana, estimated at Rs 11 crore in the international market, was confiscated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The passenger has been arrested, and investigations are ongoing to determine the source, intended recipients, and potential links to broader trafficking networks.

The recent interception is part of a series of similar seizures involving passengers arriving from Bangkok at Ahmedabad airport. In previous instances, significant quantities of hydroponic marijuana were also confiscated from passengers on Thai Airways flights. Similar attempts at smuggling high-potency cannabis have been observed at other Indian airports as well, indicating a persistent trend in international drug trafficking.
