Former Australian Test cricketer David Warner’s lawyer stated that Warner will accept responsibility for a mid-range drink-driving charge. Warner was charged after allegedly exceeding the legal alcohol limit in a breath test in Sydney on April 5. His lawyer informed the court that representations had been made to the police, and the case will be reviewed on June 24.
Warner’s lawyer emphasized that Warner acknowledges his mistake and regrets his decision to drive after consuming three glasses of wine. The lawyer highlighted that Warner’s last drink was 11 minutes before being stopped by the police, who took 52 minutes to conduct the second breathalyser test. Warner is expected to seek leniency but is prepared to face the consequences.
The future of Warner as captain of Sydney Thunder is uncertain following the drink-driving charge. Cricket NSW’s chief executive mentioned that Warner’s captaincy will be discussed at a later stage. Warner was arrested during his return from the subcontinent, where he was playing in the Pakistan Super League. Despite the charge, Warner resumed his PSL campaign after returning to Pakistan.
