The death toll from the tunnel collapse at the NHPC Teesta Stage-VI Hydroelectric Project in South Sikkim’s Samardung has climbed to 22. Rescue teams are working tirelessly to find the remaining trapped workers in the collapsed tunnel. Multiple rescue agencies, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), are involved in the intensive search and recovery operations.

A specialized rescue team from Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), Asansol, has joined the rescue efforts, bringing additional technical expertise and equipment to the site. Despite hazardous conditions and unstable debris inside the tunnel, rescue operations continued through the night. Authorities have confirmed the recovery of 22 bodies from the accident site, with search operations ongoing to locate the remaining victims.

Senior officials from the state government and district administration are overseeing the rescue efforts and coordinating with all agencies involved. Additional machinery and logistical support have been deployed to aid in the recovery mission. The state government has pledged support to the families of the deceased and to the rescue personnel engaged in the operation.

The tunnel collapse at the NHPC Teesta Stage-VI Hydroelectric Project has led to one of the worst industrial disasters in Sikkim in recent years, triggering a large-scale multi-agency rescue operation. Specialized teams equipped with heavy machinery are working around the clock to recover the remaining victims trapped inside the tunnel. Rescue operations are expected to continue until all individuals inside the tunnel are found.
