Debutant fast bowler Yash Thakur expressed gratitude to his family and team management for his successful international debut against Zimbabwe in the second T20I at the Harare Sports Club. Thakur credited sticking to the plans made with skipper Shreyas Iyer for his performance.
Thakur claimed his maiden T20I wicket by dismissing Brian Bennett for 32 and ended with figures of 2-30 in his four overs. His contribution helped India defend a total of 219/5, securing a 90-run victory and a 2-0 lead in the series.
Speaking after the game, Thakur highlighted the importance of the tactical discussion with Shreyas Iyer to counter Bennett’s aggressive batting. They focused on using the slower ball as an effective option on the batting-friendly wicket, a strategy that proved successful.
Thakur, who plays for Punjab Kings in the IPL and won the Ranji Trophy with Vidarbha in 2024/25, has been a consistent performer for India ‘A’ in both red-ball and white-ball cricket over the past year. He emphasized his readiness to adapt to different formats and expressed his love for the game without favoring any particular format.
