The number of female voters in West Bengal’s current voters’ list has decreased slightly more than male voters after a special intensive revision exercise. The count of other/transgender voters also saw a marginal decline, with a higher percentage decrease. In the draft voters’ list, female voters numbered 34,615,837, dropping to 33,314,628 in the current list, marking a 3.8% decline.
As per data from the Chief Electoral Officer’s office, male voters in the draft list totaled 36,199,391, decreasing to 34,935,123 in the current list, showing a 3.5% decline. The count of other/transgender voters decreased from 1,402 to 1,257, reflecting a 10.3% decline. Overall, there was a 3.6% decline across all categories in the current voters’ list compared to the draft list.
The statistics reveal that 2026 marks the first decrease in voter numbers in West Bengal after a continuous rise since 2011. Analysts suggest that the consistent increase in voters’ numbers over the years was due to new additions without eliminating deceased, shifted, missing, or duplicate voters from the list.
