India secured a 14-run victory over South Africa in the fourth Women’s T20I in Johannesburg. Deepti Sharma’s exceptional performance, including a crucial 5/19 spell and an unbeaten 36 runs, earned her the Player of the Match award. With this win, India avoided a whitewash in the five-match series despite South Africa leading 3-1.
In the match, Jemimah Rodrigues’ 43 and Sharma’s 36, along with useful contributions from other players, helped India post a competitive total of 185/5 in 20 overs. South Africa, opting to bowl first, made early breakthroughs but India managed to rebuild their innings through partnerships.
South Africa’s chase started well with Laura Wolvaardt and Sune Luus, but Deepti Sharma’s impactful bowling performance, supported by other bowlers, restricted the hosts to 171/9. Despite some resistance from Eliz-Mari Marx, South Africa fell short, and India sealed the victory.
The final T20I between the two teams is scheduled to take place at Willowmoore Park in Benoni on Monday.
