Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva expressed that there is significant discontent among the Sikh community nationwide, including in Punjab and Delhi, over allegations of Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi disrespecting Sikh Gurus. This discontent stems from the Punjab Police clearing Delhi’s Leader of Opposition, Atishi, without reviewing the original recording from the Delhi Assembly where she allegedly used disrespectful language towards the Sikh Guru.
The anger within the Sikh community has led to Atishi being kept out of sight in Goa by the AAP leadership, with MP Sanjay Singh taking on the responsibility of defending her, Sachdeva stated. He highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts in upholding and elevating the respect of the Sikh community, such as initiatives like opening the Kartarpur Sahib corridor and organizing the 350th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, which have garnered immense respect for him within the Sikh community.
Sachdeva questioned how MP Sanjay Singh, who is defending Atishi, can justify the Punjab Police’s clearance without examining the original recording of the Delhi Assembly proceedings. He also raised concerns about the swift clean chit issued by the Punjab Police after the Delhi Assembly Speaker agreed to investigate the video shared by Minister Kapil Mishra following AAP MLAs’ demands.
The Delhi BJP President emphasized that the inquiry report ordered by the Delhi Assembly Speaker into Atishi’s statements in the Assembly will soon be made public, leading to potential dismissal of the Kalkaji legislator by the AAP leadership. Meanwhile, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor remarked on the public’s surprise over AAP leaders’ actions, including visits to Rajghat and press conferences, in light of attempts to secure a clean chit from the Punjab Police for Atishi’s alleged derogatory remarks against Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib.
