Delhi Capitals captain Jemimah Rodrigues has been fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) match against Gujarat Giants. The penalty was confirmed by the WPL, citing it as Rodrigues’ first offence of the season. This fine comes after Delhi Capitals suffered a narrow three-run defeat to Gujarat Giants.
The slow over-rate sanction was imposed under the WPL Code of Conduct for minimum over-rate offences. Following this defeat, Delhi Capitals slipped to fourth place on the points table with six points and a net run rate of -0.164. This loss has put their qualification hopes in a delicate position.
In their upcoming crucial league fixture against UP Warriorz on February 1, Delhi Capitals will aim to secure a victory to boost their chances of making it to the playoffs. Despite the defeat to Gujarat Giants, Delhi Capitals showcased a strong performance with a late counterattack led by Sneh Rana and Niki Prasad.
Reflecting on the match, Jemimah Rodrigues praised the efforts of Rana and Prasad, acknowledging their special contributions to the game. Despite the disappointment of the loss, Rodrigues emphasized the importance of regrouping and continuing to fight in the tournament. With one league match left, Delhi Capitals are gearing up for a decisive showdown to stay in the competition.
