Delhi Capitals’ fast bowler Lungi Ngidi is currently undergoing medical examinations at a city hospital following a severe head injury sustained during an IPL game at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The results of these tests are still pending. Ngidi was rendered unconscious when he was transported off the field in an ambulance, as confirmed by sources at the venue.
During the IPL 2026 match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Ngidi fell awkwardly while trying to catch a ball hit by Priyansh Arya in the third over of Punjab Kings’ innings. Ngidi misjudged the trajectory, landing heavily on his backside and hitting the back of his head on the ground, causing visible distress. Medical staff promptly intervened, with the DC physio and team doctor providing immediate assistance to Ngidi on the field, leading to a 15-minute pause in play.
As the seriousness of the situation became apparent, a stretcher was brought out, and an ambulance entered the field amidst a somber atmosphere. Ngidi’s teammates and coaching staff displayed concern, with efforts made to stabilize him using a neck brace. Despite being able to communicate with medical personnel through gestures, Ngidi experienced restricted movement in his neck and head areas.
Following the application of a neck brace and securing him on a stretcher, Ngidi was transported off the field in an ambulance. Vipraj Nigam, a leg-spinning all-rounder, replaced Ngidi in Delhi Capitals’ playing eleven as a concussion substitute.
