Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta revealed that the Railways has approved the widening of the Railway Over Bridge on the Outer Ring Road at Haiderpur Badli to ease traffic congestion at Mukarba Chowk in north Delhi. Additionally, approval was granted for an elevated loop connecting Shalimar Bagh to Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar, crossing over railway tracks. These projects, after thorough technical assessment and discussions between the Delhi government and Northern Railway, mark significant progress for the city.
Chief Minister Gupta expressed thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for their support, highlighting these initiatives as steps towards enhancing Delhi’s infrastructure under the “Double Engine” government. Emphasizing the commitment to establishing a modern and efficient transport network in the capital, she noted the heavy traffic burden on the North-West Delhi corridors and the anticipated benefits of reduced congestion and improved connectivity upon project completion.
The Public Works Department (PWD) submitted necessary designs and technical plans to the Railways for both undertakings, which were found technically viable after a detailed review. An in-principle No Objection Certificate (NOC) was issued by the Railways, with a mandate for construction to adhere to safety standards and technical oversight to safeguard railway operations and traffic flow. Chief Minister Gupta underscored the government’s proactive approach in identifying and addressing major traffic bottlenecks across Delhi, with a focus on enhancing regional connectivity and commuter experience.
