On the eve of hosting the 22nd Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship 2026, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta urged citizens to participate in the live action and attend the mega sporting event. The championship, featuring athletes from 25 Commonwealth nations, will take place at Thyagraj Stadium in Delhi from July 27. Chief Minister Gupta welcomed Delhiites to witness the world-class table tennis competition and support the athletes during the seven-day event.
Chief Minister Gupta recently introduced ‘Mayur’, the official mascot of the championship, and unveiled the official trailer on July 14. ‘Mayur’ is inspired by India’s national bird, symbolizing energy, vibrancy, and positivity, with its feathers representing the national flags of all participating countries. The mascot embodies the spirit of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (The World is One Family) and promotes the universal message of sportsmanship.
The event was graced by Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood, officials from the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) and the Commonwealth Table Tennis Federation, representatives from various countries, players, and members of the sporting community. Chief Minister Gupta expressed pride in Delhi’s selection as the host city, citing the capital’s modern sports infrastructure, organizational capabilities, and dedication to global sports. She highlighted Delhi’s successful track record in hosting major sporting events, including the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games.
